Fortaleza offers delicious food at affordable prices. The strengths of its cuisine are fish (lobster, shrimps, snapper, etc..), its excellent meat and the freshly squeezed fruit juices of different types of exotic fruits such as graviola, acerola, cajù, goiaba, etc. Is also interesting to try the regional cuisine of Cearà which includes dishes such as carne de sol com baião-de-dois and different types of peixadas (fish soups).
Sobre o Mar d'Iracema
Located opposite Iracema beach, near the Ponte dos Ingleses, this is one of the best restaurants in town. The house specialty is the grilled seafood dish (grellada de mariscos). Also excellent are lobster, big prawns and other seafood and meat dishes.
Overlooking the waterfront of the Beira Mar, this is another of the best restaurants of the city thanks to its rich offer of fish and meat dishes.
Also on the Beira Mar, Boy Preto is a typical Brazilian churrascaria, where you can eat meat of all types paying a fixed amount. Excellent meats and service.
Sal e Brasa
This is another excellent churrascaria. Located near the Beira Mar, but toward the inner city.
Pechada do Meio
Located at the end of the Beira Mar, Pechada do Meio, together with the nearby Alfredo, offers a wide selection of seafood from the nearby fish market.
An interesting option is represented by the same fish market stalls where you can choose to do the cooking and eating fish on tables placed near the beach.
Colher de Pau
Excellent and popular restaurant specializing in the regional cuisine of Cearà.
Excellent value for money is offered by "kilo restaurants" where you pay based on the weight of the food consumed and that offer a selection of meat and fish dishes and side dishes. You can find "kilo restaurants" throughout the city. Excellent the one located at Croco Beach thanks to its grilled meats and fish. Very good also the one specializing in Sao Paulo cuisine which is located inside the Iguatemi shopping mall.
Several international restaurants (including Italian, Japanese, Chinese and other cuisines) are located throughout Fortaleza and represent an alternative to people seeking a change from Brazilian cuisine.
To be avoided
It's best to avoid eating in the barracas (beaches) and kiosks that are located on the seafront of the Beira Mar, where food is generally of poor quality. These barracas and kiosks are fine for a drink.
